What We Love
The black vieux panier guilloché dial is in pristine condition. In direct light, its pattern has a glossy, almost checkerboard effect. Turn it away and the shine falls back, leaving fine matte stripes. Paired with yellow gold, it’s a striking and classic combination that looks even better in person.
There’s just as much to enjoy from the back. The hand-wound calibre 1140 is based on the Lemania chronograph movement, with Vacheron Constantin’s finishing fully visible through the display back. It’s a movement you’ll find yourself turning the watch over to admire.
Having handled many of these ‘Historique’ chronographs, we believe this example is unpolished. The sculpted lugs retain their shape and crisp angles, while the engravings and hallmarks remain razor sharp. It comes as a full collector set, including stamped and dated papers and its serialised envelope.
What You Should Know
It wears a little larger than you might expect from its 36mm case, thanks to those sculpted lugs. There are signs of use consistent with its age, including hairlines and scratches around and on the lugs however still remains one of the best we’ve seen.
