Circa 1980 Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar 5549 With Box and Undated Papers

£33,750.00

What We Love

This is an exceptionally attractive watch, both on the wrist and in hand. The silky integrated bracelet, paired with the rich doré dial, creates a striking presence that perfectly captures the appeal of early QP production. Just 156 units made in yellow gold of this reference with very few seen featuring the classic smooth stepped bezel configuration. The case and bracelet remain unpolished, retaining their razor-sharp edges, crisp engravings, and well-defined hallmarks throughout.

The early serial number places this example at the beginning of APQP production and is complemented by the correct "SWISS" only dial and matching Mk1 case configuration. The dial is a particular highlight. Doré dials are enjoying renewed appreciation among collectors, and it's easy to see why, the warm gold tone works beautifully against the gold case and bracelet, resulting in a truly stunning aesthetic.

The bracelet is equally impressive, showing no notable imperfections and remaining uncut, while the AP logo on the clasp remains sharp and well-defined. The watch is accompanied with box and paperwork. The papers are unfilled, something we see fairly regularly with examples from this era, we haven't attributed any additional value to them.

What You Should Know

There is only one thing to note, there is a blemish around the edge of the 9 o’clock sub dial, just above the ‘M’ in ‘MON’. This cannot be removed from the dial. Light wear from use on the case and bracelet.
