What We Love

Another one has laded at WBLDN HQ, a Cartier that really ticks a lot of boxes for collectors. It looks fantastic, has genuine significance from a watchmaking perspective, and offers something a little different from the usual chronograph crowd.

The rosette guilloché dial is the star of the show and is in flawless condition, with the blue and grey printing remaining beautifully crisp and vibrant. It pairs perfectly with the blued hands and hardware, giving the watch a striking appearance. The case is equally impressive, incredibly well preserved with strong engravings, sharp hallmarks and crisp lines throughout. On the wrist wearing noticeably smaller and more comfortable than expected (my wrist 17cm).

To understand why these are so well regarded, it’s worth touching on the movement. The calibre 045MC was produced by THA Ébauche, the legendary collaboration between Vianney Halter, Denis Flageollet and François-Paul Journe. Introduced as part of Cartier’s CPCP collection in 1998 and produced in limited numbers through to 2008, the model has become one of the standout references from the period.

Overall, this is a really lovely CPCP example with all the ingredients, great condition, wears wonderfully and one of the most interesting movements Cartier ever used. It also comes complete with its original box and paperwork.

What You Should Know

Very minor hairlines from use. Original white gold deployant included with the set.
