1997 Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar 5038G White Gold Full Set

£43,450.00

What We Love

The ugly duckling of the 80s and 90s Patek perpetual calendar line-up, or the beautiful swan? We think you know where we stand… 😉

The Ref. 5038 remains one of the most intriguing limited-production references from Patek Philippe. Interestingly, the manufacture never publicly stated a specific commemorative reason for its creation. Produced for only a brief period, circa 1996–1998, and limited to just 500 examples, it is rarer than a first-series 3940.

Beneath the distinctive exterior lies the same celebrated movement found in the Ref. 3940, housed within an identical case, differentiated primarily by its unique beaded bezel.

The high-gloss black dial is preserved in superb condition, with the striking white displays providing contrast and legibility. As seen on the early white-metal 3940s, the moonphase disc features a yellow moon, while the hallmarks are correctly positioned on the case side. These remain deep and crisp thanks to careful ownership. Overall condition is very good throughout.

Accompanying the watch are its original white gold deployant clasp, box set, correct pin pusher, and paperwork. Notably, unlike the standard production 3940, the limited-run 5038 was not supplied with a second solid caseback.

What You Should Know

Light wear from use across the watch. The 3 o’clock sub dial hands show light wear from being taken on/off for servicing. Your friends might not like it, but do you care??
