What We Love

There’s a lot to enjoy here. A beautifully skeletonised Vacheron Constantin from 1994, complete with its full collector set and preserved in near-perfect condition. What makes this one particularly interesting is its distinctive 16-sided case, a particularly rare find in white gold.

The mix of brushed surfaces and polished edges gives the case real character. In white gold, those details work beautifully with the silver tones of the skeletonised movement, while the gold wheels and ruby jewels add little pockets of colour beneath. It’s a combination that rewards a closer look.

The condition is a real highlight. A mint bezel and perfectly preserved lugs retaining their original shape and definition. The facets remain sharp, with clear transitions between the different finishes. These are precisely the details that can disappear with polishing, so it’s lovely to find them so well preserved here. The hallmarks on the case side are wonderfully crisp, as is the serial engraving on the case back.

Inside is the ultra-thin automatic calibre 1120/1, extensively skeletonised to reveal the mechanics beneath. The bridges have been cut back into delicate shapes, with intricate engraving covering the remaining surfaces. There’s a huge amount of work packed into a very small space, and being able to enjoy it from both sides makes it all the better.

It’s great fun in changing light, too. The engraving catches the light as you move your wrist, drawing your eye between the decoration and the wheels working underneath. One of those watches you’ll find yourself looking at without ever checking the time.

For us, the unusual case shape, white gold construction and condition make this example stand out. Add the full collector set, still together more than 30 years later, and it becomes a very easy watch to fall for.

What You Should Know

Any signs of handling or wear are extremely minor.
