1983 Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar 5558BA With AP Certificate of Authenticity And Boxset

£56,700.00

What We Love

One of the earliest skeleton perpetuals we’ve handled, this is No. 17 featuring the Mk1 case, and one of just 154 pieces produced. The case remains unpolished, preserving its razor-sharp edges and crisp engravings. A particularly charming detail is the hallmark on the side of the lug, beautifully defined and typical of these early examples. The watch has recently undergone a full mechanical service by AP and is running perfectly.

This piece also has an intriguing history. It was discovered at auction in 2024 fitted with an incorrect white (solid) dial. At first glance, it appeared to be a standard 25548, but a closer look at the caseback revealed it was in fact a 5558 with the wrong dial fitted. This could have happened for a number of reasons but I would bet it was swiped to fit in a Royal Oak model during the Royal Oak frenzy of 2022. During its recent AP service, a period-correct transparent dial was fitted, with the small OG AP logo at 6, restoring the watch to its original and intended form. A questionable decision reversed, thankfully.

The watch is now back to full factory specification, right down to the original pin buckle. A truly exceptional example, and without doubt one of the finest we’ve had the pleasure of offering. We hope you appreciate it as much as we do.

It is accompanied by its full AP Certificate of Authenticity dated 2025, box set, booklets, and pin pusher.

What You Should Know

Light hairlines only. Original AP strap accompanies the sale as well as the one fitted.
