What I love — Wonderfully preserved full set, complete with the often-misplaced spare case back and a charming handwritten note from the Geneva boutique sales assistant at the time of purchase. The watch remains in excellent condition, with hallmarks still visible on the case side and a beautifully preserved dial.
The dial itself plays wonderfully with the light — shifting from bright silver to a deeper tone depending on the angle — while the display back reveals a movement that is a constant delight!
It is unusual to encounter early white-metal examples, as most surfaced later in the Ref. 3940 production run. Personally, I have a soft spot for these early pieces, with their sharp, vintage-esque typography that evokes classic Patek charm. The original pin buckle completes this superb and characterful set
What you should know — Case hallmarks have been polished in the past although still visible (very common for early 3940). The dial has a tiny blemish near the L of JUL in the 3 o’clock sub dial.
What We love — Iconic model, razor-sharp lines, and a truly striking dial, this reference 4100 is the midsize Royal Oak done right, and one we’re delighted to present. The case and bracelet have been professionally polished in the past, restoring the crisp angles that define the Royal Oak aesthetic. The bracelet remains tight and comfortable, accommodating wrists up to approximately 18.5–19 cm. What truly sets this example apart is the rare black dial with gold text, a configuration highlighted in the AP Chronicles article on the 4100BA. The watch is currently fitted with this black dial and is also accompanied by its original grey dial in the sale. Both dials are period-correct and feature the desirable “SWISS only” signature at 6 o’clock. In our view, midsize Royal Oaks in gold represent outstanding value in today’s market, not only when compared to modern alternatives, but also against their steel counterparts. Value aside… WHAT A BEAUTY
What you should know — As mentioned the watch comes with 2 dials, either can be fitted in the watch. The watch shows just light wear from use.
